My fiancĂ© has a 7 year old daughter. The mom has been giving her cough medicine every night for months (that we know of, maybe longer) even when she is not sick, because it makes her sleepy and that’s how she gets her to sleep. It has been addressed multiple times with BM but she denies it is happening. Well the kid is now dependent on it and cries all night at our house because she is unable to sleep without the medicine and we won’t give it to her unless she is sick. We had a lawyer when going through mediation but he was useless so we didn’t press much about this. He said that nothing can be done without a physician stating that she is dependent on the meds and that it is having negative affects on her health. What is the process of only one parent taking the child to doctors without the other parents consent? Is there anything illegal about that, as long as he has her birth certificate and health insurance card?On another note, has anyone had a similar experience who can tell us what actions you took to ensure the child’s safety? She is with us 2 nights per week and with mom the other 5. Thanks for any help.TLDR step daughter is addicted to cough meds thanks to her mom, will not stop giving them to her, she is unable to sleep without them. How can we force change of unnecessary medication? via /r/legaladvice https://ift.tt/3cGXA49
