why are we punished because of our parents?

i heard a talk from a few conferences a little but ago about a mom who had a coffee addiction and that her kids couldn't enter the temple because of it. I'm pretty sure it said stuff similar to children being punished because of the sins of their parents in the book of mormon as well, I could be wrong though. is this true? via /r/latterdaysaints https://ift.tt/3lFeGTw
