Thoughts on adoption? Fostering?

Hi there!I am a staunch antinatalist. 9/10 of people I encounter either: A. Cannot fathom the stance/philosophy; B. Are offended and react defensively. However, when I mention that—if/when I have the means—I will either adopt or foster children, most people argue that I’m a hypocrite or not an antinatalist whatsoever. Or, in one case, an acquaintance was surprised because they believed most antinatalists held the position because they were hedonistic and selfish—just wanting to keep their money and resources to themselves. When this happens, I assume these people just don’t fully understand antinatalism. My antinatalist stance is mostly based upon: A. The reduction of suffering; B. Hatred of the capitalistic system which perpetuates child birth as a means to fuel the capitalist machine (most parents don’t even spend time with their kids—they’re busy busting their ass for $$$ to buy the kid an iPhone, Xbox, etc.); C. Environmental concerns + feeling as if the world would be healthier without usHowever, I absolutely can imagine myself fostering/adopting a child(ren) in the future. I make a good living as a teacher and love supporting children who have had their natural suffering exacerbated by terrible parents, socioeconomic factors, etc. I do feel as if I could alleviate potential suffering for a kid who needs a home and a plate of food. I would never bring a new being into the world, though, simply because there are already too many suffering.Perhaps it’s because I was adopted that I hold this view. Was just wondering if anyone felt the same, or if anyone has had similar experiences with this particular topic when discussing with others. via /r/antinatalism https://ift.tt/316DMD1
