What happened to people over the past 15 years?

I have been playing a lot of wow classic lately due to the lockdowns and it has really dawned on me that the game is not different but the people really are. I remember when I was a kid I made many friends on MMO and we would play together doing PVP/quest/ETC. nowadays you can barely get a conversation out of anyone and everyone is hyper focused on in game progression or efficient farming methods, etc. It's like everyone is in a nuclear arms race about their characters power level instead of socializing in the game and enjoying the experience. That's just my personal experience. I was also discussing this with my parents when I visited them last week. My parents used to always start conversation with people when I was a kid. Whether I was with my mom or dad at a store they would be able to make conversation with people around as they were browsing for items or whatever. Now they don't talk to others due to so many experiences with rude or insulting people. They're in their mid 60s so it's really sad to see they have constant negative experience with younger people. What do you guys think? I believe it may be due to internet culture where people are more callous and less able to relate to others. It's crazy to think how something like that can shape the social ability of a generation. via /r/IncelsWithoutHate https://ift.tt/3cKtCwk
