Hi there, you delightfully horny internet somebodies! A writing partner and I recently started a new RP together based on the premise of an engaged man reluctantly falling in love with his fiance's sister.I should note quickly that my partner asked to remain anonymous, but gave full permission (and even asked me, funny enough) to share our work here on my account. So, although I'm not crediting her, rest assured that this is consensual. The whole thing is very slow to build, so if you're here for a quick bit of dirty smut, you're better off pretty much anywhere else. If you're looking for an emotional story, though, with actual characters and a relationship that grows naturally, then hopefully I and my nameless partner can deliver.Like the title says; we welcome any feedback you might have, positive or negative. This is an ongoing RP, so I'll continue to post updates, and we'd love to hear what others think of the story as it progresses. Thanks, and enjoy The Ways We Lie.[PART 1]Tonight was the night.Matthew had been preparing himself for this night for weeks, now. The ring in his coat pocket weighed on his mind like a bar of gold tied to a drowning man’s leg; a dazzling, precious treasure to be protected at all costs, but one that threatened all the same to hold him down until he suffocated and died under its weight. But it was worth it, he reassured himself. After all, Michelle was the only woman for whom he felt genuine affection; the way she poked fun at him for his tussled hair, the glint she got in her eye when she got a terrible but irresistible idea. Everything about her was absolutely mesmerizing. Even now, he found himself staring at her as she sat across the table from him, softly sipping the dark coffee he’d ordered for her to wrap up their night. He’d chosen this cafe intentionally, of course; the owner was an old client of his that owed him a favor, and Matthew had convinced him to let the two of them come in just after closing, so leaving the whole patio to themselves. In the height of the setting sun’s amber glow, he knew he’d made a good choice.Waiting until Michelle was entirely focused on the sunset, Matthew bent over in his seat, pretending to re-tie his shoe before quietly slipping out of the chair entirely, kneeling beside his new lifelong fixation.“Hey, babe?” he asked, steadying himself, “I have a question.”She turned to face him, lips pursed in confusion, then quickly shifting to the slack, subtle gap of dawning shock. She knew what he was about to do.Matthew took the ring from his pocket, holding it tightly in two barely-trembling fingers. He locked eyes with Michelle, and took the plunge.“Will you marry me?”It was a really peaceful and relaxing evening out with Matt. It was warm out with a nice slight breeze as they sat on the cafe's outdoor patio. They had never been to this restaurant together before, and Michelle wondered how Matt got them to allow them to stay after they officially closed, but she knew he was a good talker. The food was light but extremely tasty and their conversation was peppered with their usual playful banter.Matthew was unlike any other guy she ever dated or hung out with. There was a deeper connection. They really got each other and were like to sides of the same coin. When Michelle was feeling too serious, Matt knew how to lighten things up, and when Matt was feeling that way, Michelle knew how to lighten things up. When they were both feeling adventurous - look out! Their friends began calling them M&Ms soon after they became "a thing".Matt and Michelle mostly lived in the moment when they were with each other, having fun, but they sometimes studied together, and they would sometimes fall into deeper conversations about the meaning of life, their goals, and even their futures together. These conversations were usually short lived, dissolving into teasing jabs at each other.Michelle was watching the sunset with wonderment, enjoying the beauty of its colors when Matt leaned down to tie his shoe. She didn't give that much thought, but then when he was suddenly on the ground saying he had a question, she thought he had fallen. Michelle turned to look at him, a look of confusion on her face and then before she could even think about what it meant, she saw he was on his knee, and she knew what it meant. It came as a complete shock, knocking the air out of her. Was he serious, or just pulling a stunt? So many different emotions ran through her - surprise, shock, disbelief, happiness. Tears came to her eyes, threatening to spill over, her hands quickly going to her upper chest."A-are you serious??" she finally blurted out.Despite himself, Matthew felt a smirk spreading across his face, “Wait, am I? Hang on, let me check real quick,” still holding the ring in one hand, he reached into his jacket with the other and pretended to pull out a piece of paper with the other.“Okay, let’s see… Kneeling on the ground?” he glanced down at the pavement beneath his knee, “check. Sunset, in a private cafe?” he paused for a moment, looking around them, “Looks right. Incredibly expensive ring that cost me several gigs’ worth of paychecks?” he raises the ring again, locking his gaze back on Michelle.“Well, hun, looks like I’m serious.”She bit her lower lip, inhaling through her nose sharply to hold back the tears and swallowed the lump in her throat, looking down into his eyes, still absorbing what was happening."Yes! Oh my God Yes!" She didn't know exactly how it happened, but she was suddenly off her chair and on the ground next to him. "Oh my god, I can't believe this," she said, tears finally winning and rolling down her cheeks.Gingerly, Matthew took Michelle’s hand, sliding the ring over her finger and clasping it softly while they both sat, crouched on the ground outside a closed cafe.“You know how I feel about you,” he said after a moment, giving her a chance to regain some small sliver of composure. “You know you’re the only woman I’ve ever actually loved, right? How could I not ask you to marry me?”She looked down at the ring as he secured it on her finger and then back up to his eyes. She brushed her tear stained cheeks with the backs of her hands.Michelle bit her lower lip and shook her head in disbelief. "You're crazy," she whispered. "You're totally crazy and I love you so much."She put her hands on either side of his face and kissed him, tears rolling again as she did.Her kiss sent shivers down his spine. They’d kissed before, of course. They’d done more than kiss. Regardless, this kiss was special. This was the first time he got to kiss his fiance. Matthew held her close to his body, feeling the wetness of her happy tears wash away the nervous sweat from his cheek. After a virtual eternity, Michelle pulled away from the kiss, coming up for air. Matthew released one of his arms, bringing the other around to hold her closely at his side while they both caught their breath.Feeling more calm, now, Matthew stood back up, helping Michelle to her feet with a proffered hand and a light pull. Before she was even balanced on her legs he pulled her close again, pecking her lips quickly and mischievously, a devilish twinkle in his eye.“Now, would my fiance,” Oh, that word was never going to get old, “like to finish her coffee? Or should we perhaps go home to celebrate?”Their lips seemed to melt together as they kissed, tugging and pulling at each other with a sort of hunger. She returned his embrace, her moist cheek against his shirt, as she caught her breath. She felt so secure and cared for in his arms.Matt seemed to have enough of being crouched down. Being pulled to her feet, she was drawn to him by her waist. She was beginning to smile when he stole a small, quick kiss. She leaned in for more, but he held back, and she opened her eyes to see a glint in his._Fiance._ The word sent happy shivers through her."I don't think I could drink anything right now," she said softly. Michelle bit her lower lip, thinking of being held close, skin to skin. She tried to quickly kiss him, but he held back. "Let's go celebrate," she breathed.[PART 2]Okay, Matt readied himself, It’s showtime.Michelle’s parents’ house looked about like what he’d expected; pastel-blue siding, white trim, a nice hedge fence and a little garden in front of the porch. Perfectly suburban, if that’s what one was looking for. Still, somehow, it was a little intimidating.Matt couldn’t help but chuckle inwardly at his own reaction. After all the things he’d done, this was the stuff that was making him sweat? First the proposal, now meeting the parents. It was ridiculous! At this rate, he’d be catatonic on their wedding day.Oh, wow… wedding day...Focus, man, he chided, breaking his gaze from the house to Michelle’s perpetually gorgeous face. Plastering on a smile, he took her arm in his, intertwining their fingers as she led him up the driveway. The greetings went well enough. Michelle’s dad, an engineer of some kind, apparently, trapped both Matthew and Michelle in a bear hug as soon as he opened the door. It was surprising, but also endearing, in an odd way; the man was genuinely just that happy and excited to meet his daughter’s fiance.Michelle’s mother was more subdued, but equally welcoming. There were plenty of handsome-young-mans and how-thoughtful-of-yous to go around, and before Matt really got his bearings, Michelle’s mom was hurrying back to the kitchen to check on dinner, and her dad had disappeared in search of some baby photo or other that Matt “just had to see”“Hey,” suddenly alone again, Matt leaned over and pecked the side of Michelle’s head, just above her ear, “Didn’t you say your sister would be here?”Michelle smiled at his small kiss, and took hold of Matt's hand and intertwining her fingers with his. She looked at him with a glint in her eyes before moving in to quickly peck his lips. "Yeah," she answered."Mom?" she called out. "Where's Jessica?"The woman's head popped out from the side of the kitchen door, looking distracted, "I think she's upstairs, honey. She said something about working on some project or another," the head disappeared as quickly as it appeared, but Matt's soon-to-be mother-in-law continued, "Knowing her, she probably didn't even hear you come in!""Well," Matt took a step towards the stairs to the side of the entryway, "I think it's about time you introduced her to your fiance. Shall we?" He stepped to the side, waving his arm dramatically to the side like some kind of exaggerated usher.Michelle's face lit up. "Ok, let's go!" she said moving quickly to Matt's side. She led him upstairs to Jessica's room and knocked on the door. "Jessica?"Jessica was sitting at her desk working on a school project, some light music playing softly. She looked towards the door. "Michelle? You can come in."Motioning for Matt to stay in the hall, Michelle slipped her ringed finger into her pocket and opened the door, stepping inside. “Hey sis,” she beamed, “guess what?”Practically vibrating with excitement, she couldn’t be bothered to wait for a reply; pulling her hand from her pocket, Michelle held it up to show off the small, glittering ring, “I got engaged!”The look on her sister's face was one Jessica had never seen before. It was bright, full of pure excitement and happiness."What?" she was about to say, but never got the chance. Her eyes went to the hand that Michelle took out of her pocket and held up to show a beautiful sparkling diamond ring on her finger. Her mouth dropped, looking from the ring to Michelle's face. "Y-you're kidding, right?" She glanced at her calendar. It wasn't April.Giggling, Michelle fluttered her fingers to catch the light, “That’s what I said when he proposed,” she brought her hand back down to give Jessica a closer look, “but no, I’m serious!”The ring was beautiful; a slender gold band that curved softly to give the impression of a vine growing or a light gust of wind. Inlaid at the apex of the circle was a small diamond cut so no matter what angle one saw it from, it always managed to catch the light.“Hey,” Michelle leaned in, a mock-conspiratorial tone filling her voice, “you wanna meet him?”"He's here?" Jessica asked."Which one is it?" she whispered.“Oh, come on,” Michelle laughed, stepping back towards the door, “I haven’t had that many boyfriends,” she paused, a flash of embarrassment crossing her face, “...recently.”Waving for Matt to come in, she stepped aside to present her new partner, “Jessica, meet Matthew. Matt, this is my sister, Jessica.”Matt stepped into the room, already grinning as he entered, “Hi, I’ve-” his breath caught in his throat for the barest of moments, as a wave of excitement and guilt commingled behind his eyes. Jessica was… cute. Too cute, actually. Somehow, the innocent excitement on her face was enough to bring back memories of his life before Michelle. Had he met this girl a few years earlier…Clearing his throat quickly, he regained his composure and presented his hand to shake, “I’ve heard so much about you from Michelle. It’s nice to finally meet you.”Wow, Jessica thought to herself when Matthew came into view. He is good looking, like really *good looking.*She was surprised by her own thoughts, particularly since those were rarely first thoughts she had about any guy. But there was just something about him. The way his hair was styled, his cute smile that caused a glimmer in his intense eyes.Jessica blushed lightly and offered her own hand. "It's nice to meet you too. Congratulations," she said softly.Oh God, she’s blushing, Matt started to panic, Say something, you moron! Distract her!“So, uh,” Matt stumbled, looking desperately for something to guide the conversation towards. His eyes darted to Jessica’s desk, and the laptop sitting there with a text document open. Perfect.“Michelle tells me you’re in high school, right? How’s that going?”Michelle jumped in, grabbing Matt around his shoulder, “Come on, you idiot,” she teased, “she doesn’t wanna talk about some boring old classes; she wants to hear how you proposed, right?”She looked expectantly at Jessica, nodding her head slightly as if to influence her sister’s response.Damn. So close.Jessica was actually pretty proud of her project and could have talked their ears off about it. Instead seeing how Michelle wanted to talk about his proposal, she smiled. "Of course! Tell me about the proposal."“It really wasn’t anything special…” Matt said, trying desperately not to say something stupid.“Oh, shut up!” Michelle laughed, “It was too special.” She turned to her sister eagerly, “He got us into one of those street-side cafes way after closing, and waited for sunset,” she bragged.“I mean, it wasn’t that big a deal,” Matt said, obviously uncomfortable, “I just knew the guy from a freelance gig, and he owed me a favor is all…”“And he got down on one knee _just_ as the sun was setting,” Michelle continued, either oblivious or uncaring of Matthew’s embarrassment, “and proposed right there on the street!”“And then she said yes and we went home and that’s the end,” Matt finished, nudging Michelle lightly.“Oh, that wasn’t even close to the end,” Michelle teased, leaning towards her sister, “when we got ho-”“Dinner’s ready everyone!” a voice called from downstairs; Michelle’s mom certainly had a good sense of timing. Matt practically ran out the door back into the hallway, and Michelle shared a little grin with her sister before following him downstairs to the table. The way he was trying to downplay everything instead of acting all proud of what he did was actually endearing and cute, and Jessica couldn't help but smile. He definitely seemed like a good guy, down to earth, and cute.Jessica shared a grin with her sister, curious about what happened when they got home and wondering why Matthew didn't want her to share it. It must be something so mushy romantic, she thought to herself. "You'll have to fill me in later," she said softly to Michelle before they headed downstairs.Matthew was already sitting at the table when the girls came downstairs, and the last of the food was just arriving, courtesy of Michelle and Jessica’s father.Matt, for his part, looked to have calmed down a bit. Michelle couldn’t hope but giggle when she saw he was still blushing a little, but as she sat down next to him, she decided that she’d tormented him enough for the evening. The meal went by quickly; Michelle’s mom, it turned out, made one hell of a good steak dinner, and everybody was so enraptured with the food that there was almost no conversation beyond “pass the gravy,” or “what did you _put_ in this?”After the meal had ended, Matt stretched backwards in his seat, patting his now-full stomach and saying to Michelle’s mom, “That was absolutely delicious, ma’am. You need to tell me that recipe.”Under the table, he felt his foot brush against something small and soft. Jerking his foot back, he looked up to make eye contact with Jessica, whose leg he’d just brushed against.Their mom was practically glowing at all the compliments that the questions about Matthew were few.Jessica felt something warm against her socked foot and looked up, making eye contact with Matthew, who must've been the owner of the foot that touched hers. Nobody else seemed to notice. She gave him a small discrete smile trying to convey that it was ok.Matt smiled back, awkwardly, his face a flush red with embarrassment. Not only had he ogled his fiance’s sister as soon as they met, but now he was feeling her up under the table. He didn’t want to imagine what would happen if they stayed for coffee. After the meal was done, Matt quickly excused himself, saying, “I’ve got to make a call to a client of mine on the east coast. I’ve just remembered that he wanted me to check in with him on some things today.”“Nonsense,” Michelle’s dad barked a laugh, “I’m sure it can wait ‘till tomorrow.”“No, I’m sorry. It really can’t,” Matt said, walking briskly out to the front porch and pulling out his phone. He didn’t actually have any such call to make, of course, but he refused to spend any more time in that dining room with his fiance’s sister. You can’t get worked up like this every time you run into her, he chided himself, She’s going to be your sister-in-law. Find a way to deal with it!And he would find a way to deal with it. Just not tonight. As he hung up on his pretend client, Matt found himself staring out towards the lamp lit street, eyeing his car like a prisoner eyes a passing laundry cart.Yeah, no, he laughed to himself, you can’t just leave without Michelle. That would be so far beyond awkward that the rest of the night wouldn’t even compare.Just as he was about to gather his courage to head back inside and make small talk, he heard the door open behind him. Turning, he saw Michelle step out onto the porch with him, worry on her face.Michelle stepped out onto the porch. "Hey, baby," she said. "Is everything ok?"She moved closer to him and wrapped her arm around his waist. "You're acting all nervous but they all love you. Come inside."“Yeah, sorry, babe” Matt said, rubbing the back of his neck, “I’m just… not used to the whole ‘meeting the family’ thing. It’s just… well,” He said, “You know how I am with first impressions.”He shrugged, stretching his shoulders in an effort to relieve some tension, “You’re right, though,” he smiled, turning around to face her, “everything’s fine. There’s absolutely no reason to be worried like this.”She draped her arms over his shoulders, resting her hands on the back of his head as she pulled her body up against his and kissed his lips lightly."They all adore you," she said. "Almost as much as me. Come. They want to regale you with tales of embarrassment about me."Matt sighed, letting himself be led back into the house. She was right; as long as she was there, he was fine. He could make it through the night as long as he focused on her by his side."Oh, do they have any good potty-training stories?" he joked, forcing himself to smile, "Those are always great."She smacked his upper arm, smiling. "Don't encourage them, ok?" She took his hand and led him back inside. For the rest of the evening, Matt kept himself close to Michelle as much as possible. After his moment of respite, he quickly felt himself regaining control, and soon he was chatting charismatically with both Michelle’s parents and her sister. At the end of the night, they said their goodbyes. Michelle hugged her parents and sister, and Matt promised to stop by to visit, “now that we’re family,” as Michelle’s dad so eloquently put it.Safely back in the car, Matt let himself relax. Michelle’s parents seemed great, and although he had a moment of surprise, he’d managed to navigate the night rather well overall.Hopefully, though, next time he ran into Jessica he’d be a little more prepared, mentally. He wasn’t going to let anything get between him and Michelle. via /r/dirtypenpals https://ift.tt/31b61R0
