A educator's take on the current housing crisis.

Or high housing prices, whatever.I've been watching the discussions about the effects of the high housing prices and I figured I'll raise a point that no one seems to really want to discuss in terms of one of the effects of the housing crisis.Just some quick background, overseas NZ has always been the "country that's good for raising children and have a family in" maybe that's just in the asianic countries but I can't speak for other regions given my background. As an educator one of the things I see these days is the rise (for quiet some time now though) of the day care, before school care and after school care.I firmly believe this is due to the current high cost of living. Most families have no choice but to have a dual FULL time income. I'm not against dual income but I think it should be a choice.I see a lot of kids being dropped off at school at 7 AM, to a before school care then staying at school at after school care until 5 PM. When they go home they have dinner and go to bed. Generally speaking most kids seem to spend more time with their teachers/in school than they do with their parents. If they aren't school age yet I know some day cares that open at 7 and closes at 5, even packs a dinner for the kid and the parents so the parents don't have to cook when they get home! This really leads to kids not developing a deep bond with their parents, which have been proven to have long term effects on their mental health. Now that I have written that out... I'm not sure what the point of this post was. It all seems so pointless, but something needs to be done not only for the future of New Zealand financially but for the future of New Zealand broadly speaking. via /r/newzealand https://ift.tt/36IrRPd
